TDEECalc Privacy Policy

Privacy policy for the TDEECalc iPhone app and website: no account, on-device data, optional read-only Apple Health access, no third-party analytics or ads.

Effective date: October 18, 2026 (app policy). The “This website” section was added October 22, 2026.

TDEECalc is designed to keep your information private. The app does not require an account and does not sell personal information.

Data stored by the app

Your profile, calorie calculations, active plan, weight logs, weekly check-ins, widget snapshot, preferences, and local backups are stored locally in the app’s sandbox or shared app-group container. Files containing body metrics, calorie targets, progress, or plan information are excluded from system cloud backup. TDEECalc does not transmit them to the developer or to an analytics service.

Apple Health

If you choose to connect Apple Health, TDEECalc may request read access to:

  • Body mass
  • Dietary energy

Weight and dietary energy may be used to calculate an observed TDEE estimate. TDEECalc does not request permission to write any data to Apple Health.

Apple Health access is optional and is requested only after you select “Connect Apple Health.” You control each permission in the Health app.

Raw Apple Health sample records are processed in app memory on your device and are not copied into TDEECalc’s history or rotating calculation backups. They are not sent to the developer, used for advertising or marketing, or shared with third parties. The widget does not receive raw sample records. Its local shared snapshot can include the latest Health-derived weight, adaptive confidence, and observed TDEE alongside your plan’s calorie and macro targets. These derived values are stored only on your device in the backup-excluded app-group container so the widget can display your current progress.

An observed TDEE estimate or updated calorie target that you explicitly apply is stored with your active plan on your device. TDEECalc excludes its plan, progress, history, and local-backup files from system cloud backup.

Disconnecting Apple Health stops future refreshes, discards results from pending requests, clears imported samples from app memory, and refreshes the widget using your remaining manual entries and profile. A previously applied plan target or locally generated insight may remain saved; disconnecting does not delete your manual records or undo plan changes you confirmed. It does not change permissions managed by Apple; you can review or revoke those permissions in the Health app or iOS Settings.

When Apple Health is connected, iOS may wake TDEECalc after body-mass or dietary-energy data changes so the app can refresh your locally calculated insight. Background delivery does not add new data permissions, transmit data to the developer, or cause TDEECalc to write to Apple Health. If you grant access to only a limited history, TDEECalc limits its analysis to the dates iOS makes available and explains that more history may be needed.

On-device Energy Insights

On supported devices, TDEECalc may use Apple’s Foundation Models framework to turn a small, structured set of locally calculated facts, such as formula TDEE, observed TDEE, goal, confidence, and data-day counts, into a plain-language summary. This processing uses the on-device system language model. TDEECalc does not use Private Cloud Compute or a developer-operated AI server.

The generated summary is checked against TDEECalc’s numeric results. If the model is unavailable or its response cannot be validated, the app uses a deterministic on-device explanation instead. Generated summaries are educational, cannot change your active plan automatically, and are saved only in the app’s local, backup-excluded storage.

Siri, Shortcuts, and widgets

TDEECalc exposes optional App Intents for reading your current TDEE, BMR, calorie target, and daily macro targets; logging weight; and opening relevant screens, including the weekly check-in. Personal shortcut actions require Apple’s system authentication. Opening a check-in does not save one or change your plan. Data returned to Siri or Shortcuts is handled by Apple’s system surfaces under your direction. Weight logged through a Shortcut is validated and saved in the same local data store as an in-app entry. Widget snapshots contain only the minimum values needed to render the widget and remain in the app’s local shared container.

Privacy-safe diagnostics

You may voluntarily share a diagnostic report from Settings. The report contains only the app version, connection status, and counts of days for which relevant data is available. It does not contain weight, calorie, or other raw health values. The report is shared only through the destination you select in the iOS share sheet.

Notifications

If you enable an optional weekly reminder, its schedule is stored on your device and delivered by iOS. TDEECalc does not send reminder information to a server.

Retention and deletion

Your information is stored locally, subject to the app’s existing save-time limits of 100 calculations, 1,000 progress entries, and 20 rotating calculation backups. Updating the app does not intentionally reset or delete existing data. Deleting an individual calculation can leave a safety copy in the app’s rotating local-backup set, which retains no more than 20 backups on the same device. Using Clear All History also deletes those calculation-history backups. Clear All History affects calculations and their rotating backups, not your profile, active plan, progress, or Apple Health records. A storage error leaves previously saved records in place and is reported in the app. If an unreadable file can be recovered from a local backup, an additional on-device recovery copy may be kept to protect its original bytes; it is not part of the rotating backup set. Local safety copies of a previous plan or progress file may also remain after an individual edit or deletion. These files are excluded from system cloud backup. Local-only data can be lost if the device is lost, damaged, or erased; there is no developer-operated recovery service. Removing TDEECalc from the device removes its app data, subject to normal iOS behavior.

Apple Health data is controlled separately by Apple.

Analytics and tracking

TDEECalc does not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, cookies, or cross-app tracking.

Educational purpose

TDEE, calorie, macro, BMI, ideal-weight, progress, adaptive, and projection estimates are educational wellness information and are not medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or guaranteed outcomes. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before making medical decisions or if you have health concerns. See also the medical disclaimer.

Children

Personalized calorie planning in TDEECalc is intended for adults aged 18 and older. TDEECalc does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

This website

This section covers the TDEECalc website you are reading, separate from the app. The site’s calculators run in your browser, and the numbers you enter are not sent to a server. The site stores only your theme and unit preferences in your browser’s localStorage, on your device. It sets no tracking cookies and currently has no analytics. Your use of the site is not tracked or profiled.

If analytics is added to the site in future, this policy will be updated before it goes live.

Changes and contact

This policy may be updated as the app changes. Questions can be sent to [email protected]. For app help, see support.
